NEED ANIMIX STAFF!

Want to know the rules/regulations for the convention? Got a suggestion or constructive criticism? Want to talk about the convention? Here is the place to do it!

Hey-hey. I looked at the Volunteer Staff page on the site and didn't see any sort of form. I'd love to work since it's summer break, though I'll have to ask for time off from work.

I was on Info Desk for A-Kon's 17 and 18. Then Guest Relations for both AnimeFest 2007 and Ikkicon 2 (one might've seen me trying to run errands in a wheelchair, hehehe). I also plan on working Anime Wasabi next month, and I'm switching to Guest Relations for A-Kon 19.

So, my question is: How do I sign up for volunteer staff?

Thanks bunches.

Volunteers

Postby AsianEyes442 on Thu Feb 21, 2008 5:05 am

Hit me at keita@animix.org for volunteer forms. I tried to put one on the website, but then I got a ton of spambots and numbnuts trying to sell me medication and viagra. I have to find a spam free method of getting volunteers.

Laters,

Alright, I've wrangled a few of my friends into volunteering (one of them keeps forgetting to mail hers in - I nag!). Also, my mom works at one of the high schools here, and like most high schools they have a work program. I gave the details of the con and volunteering, as well as the website, to the teacher in charge of that program. If any of her students are interested in anime and conventions and such, and choose to volunteer, the teacher will give them credit for their volunteer hours. I'm not sure how many volunteers we'll get out of that, but I figure there's got to be at least one or two students that may be interested. I'll keep trying to find more volunteers, if we need them.

I'm during security through Fort Hood. I'm sure there are some Otaku soldiers out there that would love to have a weekend to do security for the convention. I'm also working on promoting the convention to soldiers. If you know of a cool way to let the soldiers know about the convention, let me know.

Thanks,

Sorry, but I have one concern. Why not have online forms for Volunteer Staff, rather than having a print-out form to "snail mail" it? It would be a lot more convenient, and there wouldn't be a need to pay for stamps, paper, envelopes, ink, etc. If it's done electronically, no one would have to worry about their mail getting lost, no one will get those potential paper cuts, etc.

So, out of curiosity, why paper forms and not e-mail?

Volunteer Forms

Postby AsianEyes442 on Wed Apr 09, 2008 8:14 pm

I know it's a pain in the butt, but everytime I attempt to use the internet forms for AniMix either something bizarre happens or I get spam bots junkin' up my mailbox to no end. They fill out the form and send me spam stuff. So I just thought that if you were a real live person, you could send in the forms by mail so that I know, and I can keep records and emergency contact information for everyone.

Thanks,

good question

at one point I saw on the volunteer page on the animix website that volunteers would get a badge, shirt and a room at the hotel. is this all true or not? I just want to know before I get a room. I'm also sending in my form today. I'll be available pretty much all weekend.

Yes it is true. If you are volunteering, don't get a room.

Ok, be prepared for a lot of posts from me. I'm a seasoned con-goer of 8 years and I live in Temple. For years I have tried to get people interested in having a convention in the area. This is a great place for it, inbetween all the major cities, only a short drive from anywhere. If managed correctly, it could flourish dramaticaly. Now I see this and it's over my birthday no less! Very cool.
I'm just going to go ahead and post the entire message here instead of posting sections of it in all the other locations.
I'd like to help out. I see your website could use some TLC. I can probably help out with that.
I'd also like to volunteer to run some events and possibly bring a Lolita fashion group to the convention. Short drive for me, but if I can make it a big enough event, I could probably get about 20-30 people to come to this convention.
I'm also an avid gamer and I cosplay well, but not great. (You can only do so well when you are a fat girl cosplaying thin women.) I'll be joining the Fashion design program at UNT next year (I'll be leaving in the fall.)
I would like to advertise at A-kon for you. I'll be spending my entire weekend up there, and I can pass the word and some small cards with information on it and play it up.
I only have a part-time job right now, so I have very little money, but a lot of free time. If anyone would like to contact me about any of this, you can post here or email me at vk-kitty at hotmail dot com. I seperated it out since you seem to have trouble with spam on this website. I'll even give you my phone number through email if you are interested in allowing me to help out.
Oh, and I might suggest warning the non-residents about the awful traffic in front of the hotel at rush times? That could get messy, we know that it's a nightmare in front of the mall, but out of towners might not know.

Since I'm leaving in the fall, I'd love to go out with a great bang like this anime convention. (Plus it's over my birthday, how freaking ool is that!?)

So in short, I want to help. I'm not looking for a "job" or anything, I want to help this convention grow!

Hello Kittie

Hey gal,

You got me at the Lolita fashion show! If you could bring a lolita fashion group to the convention I would be extremely grateful. A cosplay fashion show is in the works and I think we could combine the lolita into the fashion show to make it a bit longer. Do they sell their pieces as well or do they just display them in the show? If they sell them, they could get a spot in the ballroom after the show to sell their pieces.

Other than that, you can most certainly help out with the convention. I have lots of job openings left and about seven or eight more volunteer slots to fill. If you want to host a panel, just let me know and I'll hook you up.

Happy Coning,

I can certanly try to get them to come, most of them live in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. But I might be able to stage a mass exodus of a bunch of them down here, especially if I can get them to carpool^^ I'll bring it up to them, try to get something going and see if I can get voluteers for a fashion show^^ It think it would be a lot of fun!
There are actually only two of us who make our own lolita, my self and my best friend. (We even share the same name, funny huh?) But that would be really neat if we could scrounge a few things together for sale as well, when i put my mind to it, I can be quite the industrious type^^
I'm curious what you mean by cosplay fashion show? That's a new one to me.

I can get in contact with a lot of dealers to furnish you dealer's room, I have a few friends that I've made over the years, do you have a set of prices for tables and rules and regulations and all that?

Also, if you need help with the Artist's Alley, I can recruit for that if you want to send some details. (I'd like to try a table myself if it isn't too expensive!)

Or should I just email the emails for the information? Would that be easier?

Thanks for letting me get involved!

Color me stupid. i found the information I was looking for. Do you have a list of dealer's already participating? If you do, i'll know who to bother about it^^
And a friend of mine and I are contemplating an artist alley table too^^
