Killeen area Anime Club

Postby datboicj03 on Thu Jul 23, 2009 3:02 pm

A copy and paste of what was in another topic:

Maybe we could make like a local Anime club. Sure we'll start off small but as time goes on I'm sure we could get more members. Some ideas that i have been running over.

Anime Viewing Parties - Arrange some day pull the Pocky out and watch some anime. Have some discussions about it and what not but most of all enjoy ourselves.

Manga Discussion - Think of it as Oprah's book club but of course its manga.

Cosplay workshops - We come together and talk about cosplay help those out who need it. Learning how to style wigs and what not.

Video game nights - Whether we decided to hit the arcade up. Or have a gathering to play some video games.

Dinner - Come on know who doesn't love to eat. We could even make some bento's and have a picnic in the park.

I think all this and more is possible. I know one concern people would have is where would we meet. One place of Interest could be the Harker Heights Library. I've also been looking into the Killeen Community Center as well. Those rooms require a reservation and cost. I'll have to check on the cost but im sure it's not that bad. If it's not i wouldn't mind paying for our first meet up and activity. I'm sure if we can get this rolling we could have fundraisers and what not and really bring in some people.

So just tell me what you think about it. I think it would be great for us. So if your interested in it let me know i'll list my contact/networking info and we can take it from there. If it starts as just 5 of us then so be it but as time goes on im sure we could really do it.

Now if we start off small and have meet ups just to discuss where we wanna go and establish some goals that would be a good start. Then as time progresses and more people join then we can move up and think bigger, but for now we can just keep things small. So if your interested and know people who are intersted then let me know and we could set up a Bento picnic in the park or something and we could even cosplay and take pics and what not. And by all means share your ideas and thoughts.

I'm in. Heck, if all else fails, we could use the cafeteria at the college occasionally. Just as long as we don't get too loud and stay for longer than say, an hour or so. They've gotten a tad strict up there, the last couple of years...

This would also be a great way to keep people thinking about the con and how to raise money for it... ;)

I would love to participate, but unfortunately, I'm moving to Arlington in less than a month.

My suggestions for beginning meetups:

Times: Saturdays or Sundays.
Afternoons or evenings.

Places: Somewhere public (i.e., no one's house). park. maybe mall or bookstore (the Harker Heights B&N might be good but it'd be best to check with the management if we think it'll be more than about 7-8 people). Nowhere on-post, to make it easier for anyone to come. Closer TO post, though, would be nice. Killeen Library would only be good if we could get a privateish room--anime folk tend to be loud. :)

I met a girl today who just missed the con. She's new to the area but previously was the president of the anime club at her school. She might be willing to help get things set up here.
