I think the mall is a good place too actually. Just make sure nobody brings any prop weapons cause they are stupid about that even when there is a suncoast anime event going on.

Just a note on the mall: if you're in a large group, they will ask you to leave. They're really strict on their rules.

I think a park would prolly be ideal for the beginning. Its accessible to everyone and if the group was to get large there wouldn't be a prob.

I can check with the Harker Heights Library activities center if that area is open and no events are goin on in it it might be possible to use it when they are not and hopefully they won't charge. With them I'm kinda sure that as time goes on they would prolly continue to help us out as we start establishing ourselves. I'll have to talk to one of the directors again about that. I'll get on that this week.

But if that doesn't work then a park wouldn't be to bad for the time being at least for our first meet-up.

So I'm looking ahead at dates and the 15th, 22nd, and 29th of August or sticking out.

Comments/Concerns????

The HH Library sounds like a good idea, but the Saturday and Sunday dealie isn't because they host Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokemon tournaments there.
The mall or the Lions Park would be a better idea, as long as we are in the food court at the mall they can't really kick us out (supposedly).

I for one would very much enjoy eating a bento lunch. It seems interesting to try, but I think I'd die if I landed in Asia. DX I can't stand rice since the day my sister put it in my soup and said they were maggots. So I'll probably give up my rice to somebody that wants it. : / No offense to anyone's cooking though. Teaching others in the club about how to style wigs or, if people cannot buy a wig, their own hair would be great. I personally don't like wigs and I am convinced with the right technique you could get your hair to look like the character you are cosplaying as. Costume designing would also be a great help too, I'll be hitting myself forever due to an embroidery mistake on my Naruto jacket. Sewed the spiral the opposite way.

As for fundraising, why not ask Suncoast, the library, EB Games, or even WalMart - You can get funds from just about everywhere. As soon as I get a job I'll pitch in with a few monthly payments to the club it won't be much at first since I'm saving up for $3,000 to replace my car engine.

Personally I think the Lions Park would be the best bet for starting out, we have grassy areas, the new water park they're setting up plus A/C buildings. Anyone else for Lions Park?

We need a name for our club. O_O Something catchy. Just plain old Anime Club isn't too broad for what we're planning to do. Lol, I'm starting to think that we should call it Genshiken! XD Short for Gendai Shikaku Bunka Kenkyūkai (現代視覚文化研究会) or "The Society for the Study of Modern Visual Culture". Man I love the random manga's that help me out... Though the fact its a manga title... I don't want our club to suffer from copy right policies. =_=; Any other naming ideas?

Lions Park wouldn't be a bad place. Not really interested in the Aquatic center though since it just opened and everyone is there. The mall i don't really agree with. Way to many people there on the weekends.

Still for our first gathering we should keep it pretty simple and meet up at a park. This way we can get some of the preliminary things outta the way. And then we take it from there. Would like to get more feedback on the dates.

The MVC. Modern Visual Culture. a geeky Genshiken nod without copyright problems. :)

re: bento lunches without rice -- there are a berzillion things you can do without rice in a bento! :D I love steamed and fresh veggies, fresh fruits, eggs (cooked almost any way), and tons of other stuff that doesn't have rice. alternate starches are pasta, couscous, potatoes, bread, tortillas, or basically anything else. Bentos aren't limited to asian food in the least--not even in Japan.

re: the mall: it is NOT a place to choose "because we can be loud". We need to be as polite and unobtrusive as we can, especially the first time, because we're using their space for free. We have limited options here and we need to be as respectful of wherever we end up as we can. After all, otaku don't really have a good reputation -- we need to not give them any reason to believe that! :)

The other thing with the mall is - it's the mall. And it's summer, to boot. How many non-otaku teens with nothing better to do are going to be there? *wince*

What about condor park? Its outside but there are a lot of trees, and Its a large grassy area. Besides, there's nothing stopping us from bringing coolers and stuff. :D

Ergh yeah... Mall is a no go now that I remember how uncomfortable it was when I cosplayed Klarth F. Lester for that competition for Suncoast. T_T God some people were so impolite and kept staring... Almost thought the mall cops were going to kick me out before I even got to the store. T_T;;;;;

Parks seem like an awesome place to be right now so, I'll check my calendar and see what I could come up with. ^ ^ This'll also help me get good ideas for the Anime Club at Ellison. I have really big ideas to bring in more people for my school's club, I thought that we should get a little camera time so others could see what we do. I also thought we'd have a little infomercial on our school's E. t.v. time. ^ ^;; And putting out fliers and posters would've helped the club too... The club at Ellison is really small (so I think) and we can't even seem to reel in the closet otakus.

Perhaps once we get enough funding we can put up posters and ads in the paper?

How about we have a GO! tournament for our first activity to go along with the lunches? O_O I know how to play and it really is easy once you get the hang of it.

:D Also, yay to the name! My brain wasn't working... DX
Mascot...? O_o;

Still waiting to hear some feedback on the dates from you guys. If we can meet sometime in August just to talk about locations and activities and bringing in members to the club and other things we should do as a club. Because once we get these preliminary things outta the way and we know where we stand.

Except for the 15th, those sound like good dates. Only thing with the 15th is that some people might be going to SanJapan and all. But Saturdays sound like a good day for it. We should find out who has the biggest tvs and what not, so we can "volunteer" their place for viewings. I've got a really top-notch dvd player that plays data discs/data dvds that I'm certainly willing to volunteer for usage.

It's been kinda quiet lately haven't heard much back from anyone on when we all could meet up. Sometime after the 15th of August would be good. With 12 people interested in it that more then enough for us to get a starting point.

So the 22nd and 29th. How about we just ask point blank...

Who can make it 22nd?

Who can make it 29th?

I can make it both times but we'll need to start getting people to go, "yeah I can make it to one (and state which)" "I can do both" or "i cant make it on those dates" so we just have a general idea of who is going and when would be best.
