I'm really not sure where to post this but here goes:
DO NOT EAT AT THE CHINESE BUFFET PLACE CALLED WONG'S PALACE NEXT TO THE HOTEL.
If for some unfortunate reason you did eat there and are, still feeling ill, go to a doctor! My group ate lunch there on Friday and were all sick that day. Unfortunately we think one of us may have picked up something very serious from eating there.
!
Just wanted to give people a heads up. |
Omg I feel sorry for you D: We avoid that place all the time after trying it out once.
If its held in that area again, I recommend going to Yank Sing next time Dx. That's what my mum and I did when we left from the con xD |
T^T never again!

For a first year, and for it's location, I thought things were nice. I enjoyed the atmosphere and the laid back feel of the con, which is all too often missing from larger convention.
My only real problem was with the hotel letting the artists and attendees in the Artist Alley burn in the eternal fiery blast of the sun's angry wrath. It wasn't until I started duck taping bed sheets up on the windows again on Sat that they finally did something about it. It was still far too hot. Zapped me of energy Fri and Sat. On Sunday it finally felt like the Hallway was receiving any AC at all... But that was the hotel's issue, not the cons.
I didn't participate in the Cosplay event, but from what little I saw and heard, I agree with EvilKimba on her aforementioned rant. Lady knows what she's talking about. Animix would do good to contact them. They could event get them to run their cosplay show for them. (Theyz be cool like that.)
Game room... Could have been better I admit. But, with lack of a bigger room, I'm not sure that would have been possible. DDR would have had to have been set up somewhere else... That little room, and that much play, would have made a rather stinky day, eck. Oh, they had Mugen on the X-Box... Just no one bothered to ask for them to set it up...
I'd like to see a Art Show for next year. And a Bulletin Board with last minute updates would have been nice. A schedule that's printed apart from the Program guide would be easier to update if last minute stuff changes too. They might want to implement that for 2009.
Long story short, I had fun and according to me, that's what counts. So, I'll definitely be back next year and can't wait to see what new stuff they do.
Good job Animix crew! _________________

I know that someone already covered it at the original suggestion panel but,i think it would be a good idea to have backup things incase people cancel on you like before.
And even if it's not a panel then make it something like a small artists contest or just some kind of activity that people could participate in while they are waiting for the larger events to take place.I think that would make more people want to come and stay longer.

Oh -- I noticed this year that sometimes panels had to swap rooms so that the projector screen could be used. Next year, could you designate one room for stuff-with-a-projector if you can't equip both rooms?

Alright, so I'll admit right off that this was definitely my first anime con. And to be honest I liked it. Aside from the disorganization (Which may not have been able to be helped) it was nice to go to a smaller anime con.
Now the only thing I really had an overbearing issue on was a select few of the cosplay fans. Even though in the rules it had said to not stalk or harm the cosplayers, there was a handful of people that refused to listen.
I was one of the girls cosplaying as Sora and for the two days I had dressed up I had pretty much been stalked. I wasn't harmed in any way luckily, but a few of the other cosplayers were. For one, one of the kids actually ended up breaking a Reno's stick and a Demyx's scitar. That was all on Friday though and it wasn't nearly as bad as the next day.
The next day there were three new fans who seemed to be a bit more....excited than most. One of them would actually shriek and chase down any cosplayer she could find. When someone told her to stop, she wouldn't. She not only stalked some of the cosplayers but she actually started to hit some of them too. She ended up hitting a Squall with her sandals just to do it. And I believe she also hit a Cid as well after calling him a pedophile because he was talking to the group in an upbeat and friendly manner. And the next day she and a friend actually began to chase down my friends (who were dressed as ninjas) and would actually tackle them onto the ground.
This girl and her friend were trying to 'unmask the ninjas' and even resorted to interuppting the Stephenie Yanez concert by running into the ninja and throwing him on the ground. Many of the people watching the convert ended up watching this girl harrass my friend. No one tried to help for some odd reason, and my other friend ended up going and pulling the girl off of the ninja.
I'm not saying that this is the anime cons fault at all, but I do believe that the security needs to be better next year. Alot of the friends I made, who were cosplayers as well, complained that there was no protection from overly excited, and slightly crazy, fans. So personally I think the security needs to be a bit better, give out warnings for overly obbsessive fans, and if they continue then kick them out for the day.

How much security was at the con anyway?
When I went for Saturday all I saw were con staff at the desk where you get your badge, I don't recall seeing them anywhere else. Though they kind of blended in with the con-goers.
Not sure if this was done but staff should have different bright colored lanyards depending on what their status is, such as con manager has neon pink, security have neon yellow, and regular con-goers have a dull red or blue or something. I know at a-kon if a con staff isn't cosplaying, they have an obvious staff shirt that says "staff" or "security". _________________

Another note on security:
There was some creepy old guy that kept saying really nasty stuff and trying to touch women. He was at the con all three days and got reported every day. Why did he keep getting in?

Ah, I heard about him. Why he was not asked to leave, I do not know. It seems we failed in the whole security department and some rules weren't really enforced. _________________ Every time I open the fridge, the hole in my jello glares at me.

Ohh! I remember that guy! He was trying to hit on me at the FFVIII ball!
He didn't bother me too much because my ninja came back, but still I do remember that guy walking around. I didn't know that he caused that many problems XD He only talked to me that once and the rest of the time left me alone. _________________

We had security. They were hired by the hotel... THey were the big guys with black t-shirts with security on them. They didn't come during the day, but they came Friday and Saturday at about 6 or 7. They were there, just not when we needed them. They wouldn't come during the day...
Thanks,

I saw those guys. I had no idea they were with the con (or meant to be with the con at all) -- I thought they were with the HOTEL. Like, they just happened to be stopping by with us.
I didn't notice any guy. :/ Didn't anyone take his badge?
I did notice that some of the fangirls were more rambunctious. I didn't see any hitting, though -- I tried to avoid the ones in question. I'll definitely keep an eye out next year for them so I can help make it a fun con for every cosplayer.

This was my first con ever so I really don't have anything to compare to, but like other people were saying that hotel was pretty bad and it seemed like there wasn't much security, but other than those things I had fun and am looking forward to next years!!!

This was my first con I ever attented so, I don't know too much, but what the others said about the hotel and security I agree with as well. The hotel was bad and not much secruity was around to what it seemed like, but the con was fun and I enjoyed it. So I can't wait for the next years!!!
